Road Trip

Last weekend, I took a road trip with my big sissy and we visited all of the following: Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, AND Romega! We got to see Tini while we were in t-town, research all the possible wedding venues in Romega for big sissy's wedding, and collect her BIG cash prize for being a smarty pants! It was a long drive, but we sure did have fun belting out Lady Antebellum the whole way there and the whole way back!!

I came home to Romega to such a surprise!! Dukey's dog, Choca, had puppies!! Aren't they so sweet?? They didn't even have their eyes open yet and they all LOVED burrowing into the crevice of my arm!! Yep that's right, I held every single one of them!! It made me remember the days when Howie would come home with a new puppy and Galibo would FREAK because she knew she was the one who was going to have to take care of it!! We never thought she would ever come around to poor Buffaluffagus!

Who has been watching The Bachelor?? ME! ME! My pick this season? TENLEY, a 25-year-old college admissions representative from Newberg, OR!!! She's bubbly, cute, smart, and sweet!! I am convinced that season 14 IS MY SEASON!!! By the end of the show, it is always down to my girl and some other girl...and my girl always loses. Of course, that is minus last season. Getting Schooled

In loo of grading papers (also my excuse for being delinquent on my postings), you are getting "schooled"! Here are the top five errors that were the most common. Here we go...

1. Their car is located over there. There are two different ways to spell it, and the two ways have different meanings! Know them well and use them correctly!

2. Y'all is a contraction of "you all", which means that it is not spelled ya'll or yall. Y'all should know this by now if you are living in the South!

3. Do NOT throw in a semicolon to separate two complete sentences. One of the papers I graded was completely comprised of run-on sentences! A sentence that takes up four lines is absolutely unacceptable (and unclear)!

4. Spell out small numbers. There is no reason why a writer should have to write a "2" instead of "two". It's short anyways!

5. Number 4 brings me to my next point. "It's" is a contraction of "it is". "Its" (no apostrophe) is the possessive form of it, which means it should only be used to tell the reader that "it" has something.

Two weekends ago, Dukey and I had date night and went to see Avatar at the IMAX theatre!! It was my first experience with an IMAX theatre, and I loved it!!! While I am not going to say that Avatar was life-changing, it definitely made me look at life differently! It is always interesting to me to see a world in which the people in it are not bounded by deadlines, technology, and time in general! The avatars spend their whole lives learning about and appreciating the world around them. I would definitely recommend going to see this movie!!! If you get a chance, you should definitely go!!!

Judging a Book by Its Cover

I did it once again, and I was wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Well, I (regrettably) didn't judge an actual book. The book is a metaphor for a person. Along with many other people in our society, I am guilty of liking to "figure people out". I pick up on cues as to who they are, what the are interested in, and what type of life they live. "Figuring people out" goes hand-in-hand with people watching, also one of my favorite things to do. Not because I like to judge, but because everyone has a story and I want to know what it is. Yesterday, I was slapped across the face with my (ass)-umption of someone else. Let's just say I was completely wrong. Oopsey!! Before you make a mistake like me, remember that:

As one of my new year's resolutions, I set the goal that I was going to become more healthy all-around. No diets, no fads, no temporary. One of the elements this goal includes is taking a multivitamin every day. Now, which one to choose?? I came across the wellbeing collection sold at GNC. I checked it out, and they have a multivitamin called be-whole that is easy on the stomach. They also have other specific vitamins, such as be-balanced. Be-balanced is a vitamin that supports healthy bones, which is very good for me because I don't drink milk. At all. They have all sorts of other vitamins that your diet may be lacking, so check it out! As soon as I try them out, I'll let you know how it goes!

Yes, it was announced last Friday that the Oprah show is ending in September 2011. I. Am. Depressed. I have watched Oprah ever since I was a small child, while waiting for dinner to be on the table. In undergrad, I even scheduled my classes around the show! I watch the show every day, and I don't know what I will do with myself when it ends!! I even have the 20th anniversary box set, have watched it over and over again, and cry every single time. Oprah is someone who has inspired me for years. The reason I love Oprah so much is because she does (in a way) what I want to do with my life! She advocates for many, many people/organizations and promotes press for them! I also respect her greatly for overcoming racism waaay back when, and for making something out of herself even from the worst circumstances. Did you know that she was supposed to be named Orpah, but her parents didn't have the education to spell?! Great person, good heart. I will be very sad to see her show go!

My little face was covered in paint and I even had triangles painted on my above and below my eyes! I wore a hidious bright orange wig, and I still accuse Galibo of getting a laugh at my expense! Oh, yes they did it!!!! Starbucks has created a new coffee on-the-go!! They come in little packets (like crystal light packets or something)! All you do is add some hot water and... PRESTO! It comes in Columbian (medium) and Italian (extra bold) roasts! Neat-o! You can also purchase a mug that holds the packets, so you can take them wherever you go! This product would be easy for anyone to use if you drink as much coffee as I do! Mine is definitely getting some use at, say, a certain Dukey's apartment... where there is never any coffee! Can you believe that??

So... I got to babysit again after a loooong break! Poor little SC had the sniffles and a cough, so she had to stay home from preschool! Before you feel sorry for her, don't worry, she had no trouble at all keeping me busy! She hid from me all day (all I had to do to get her back was lay in the floor and...BOOM! Bomb dropping right on my stomach with a running start)!! Of course, this was followed by A LOT of laughter (she loves it when I get hurt)! We also ran laps around the house after the consumption of A. Capri Sun(s) yes, there was more than one, and B. my chocolate meal replacement bar I discovered was eaten by the smear of chocolate all over her face! WOW, what a day! Let's just say I'm not going to have any trouble going to sleep tonight!

Every day, I am learning more and more how important good friends are! I am very blessed to have some of the best friends on the planet! This weekend, Dukey and I made our way to T-town to see our long lost friends and go to our first Alabama game this year!! Can you believe that?? I can't! My big sister graciously opened up her home to us and for that, I am very thankful! Y'all are the BEST! On Friday, we went out to eat at KOBE (my first time) and on Saturday, biggy cooked awesome tailgating food and we went off to the game! The End of My Relationship With Dukey

I have the funniest story you have heard all day. Dukey has threatened to break up with me for telling it, but I told him I simply could not deprive my friends and family of this hilarity. So this weekend when Dukey was visiting, we were awake at say, 3 a.m., at which "the incident" took place. We were bored out of our minds and sitting in my living room. Dukey then begins to tell me how in high school, he could jump off things really softly. Did I care? Obviously not. Did he care that I didn't care? Absolutely not. I have this chest below my window in which I put spare blankets and pillows. Dukey climbs onto and says "watch this and then you'll believe me!" So he preps himself... And jumps!! Two seconds later, KABLAM!!!!! I seriously thought my apartment building was going to collapse. And Dukey is on the ground... whining about something. When he jumped off, his big toe bent under and snap, crackle, popped! When I went over to him to see if he was okay, he looked at me and said, "I really can do it. I just messed up. Seriously though, I can do it!!!" His toe turned bright red and swelled up. He laid down on my couch and I got him an ice pack (needless to say, I had so much trouble getting the ice because I was laughing so hard). For the next hour, I heard all about the fact that he really could jump quietly. To this day, he is still trying to convince me of such! I did feel sorry for him, but it was just too funny not to laugh! So here it is, I am probably officially kicked to the curb after this post. Oh, what a blogger will do for her viewers!

As most of you have probably heard, Jon cancelled the show, Kate Plus 8 claiming that his children were "unsafe". Wowee, what a time to start being a parent! Sorry for the vent but in my personal opinion, Jon is a lousy excuse for a man, let alone a father. Kate does everything for the kids and while I admit she may be a little self-absorbed, at least she is being an appropriate model for the kids. Funny that I talk about them like we're old friends! I hope you don't get as irked about "the stars" as I do!

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

The only intelligence-invoking TV show I watch is "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader"! Dukey bores me with hours of Jeopardy and he is so good at it! I don't like it simply because I never know any of the answers, let alone why the answers have to be in the form of a question. Does this mean I'm a dumb-dumb? Possibly. I get most of the questions right on "AYSTAFG" because a lot of them have to do with spelling and because they are meant for, well, fifth graders. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm pretty dang good at spelling (especially fifth grade spelling)! Anyways, one of the questions on tonight's show was:

Tini, SL, and Dukey attended the Braves game!! Sooo much fun! The weather was perfect and we had great seats! Too bad we missed a good portion of the game (you know how that tailgating can hit you at the worst times). I was so happy that I got to see the bestie and bff!! They surely made the trek late at night to see us! We even had sooo much fun that one of our attendants caught the infamous Swine Flu... yuck! Diet Like A Doggie

Literally. So, I think I'm going on a diet. The Noah diet. For those of you who don't know who Noah is, he is my maltese puppy! After over a year of observing Noah chow down on his Purina Moist n' Meaty, I think I should start eating the stuff! Noah seems to like it and he is the size of a pencil. They even section the amount off for you by bag so you don't go overboard! Before I really consider this, any suggestions that don't include eating the same food as my poochie??

True Story: I Have A Speech Impediment

At a visit to my local Orthodontist's office, I was floored when they told me what is causing my problem with my teeth! I'm a tongue-thruster. Uh huh, 22 years old and I am just finding this out! Wonderful! So on my way back to C-ton I called Big Sissy and told her the diagnosis (since she is a speech pathologist). She said "well now that you say it, I guess you do kind of sound like you have a lisp. I've always wondered why I couldn't understand you as much as I can understand my other friends on the phone." HAHHA Don't worry sissy, no hard feelings! Don't worry, I'll keep you updated (even if they make me wear a metal helmet clenching my teeth shut or something)!

Funniest. Movie. Ever. A bit graphic, so leave Meemaw at home! The best part about it is that every few minutes, I would turn and look at Dukey and he was cracking up! We have NEVER enjoyed the same movies! Here are a few of my own ugly truths about relationships that I try to live by...

1. Once a cheater, always a cheater (unless of course, he's really, really cute). Just kidding!
2. If you ask him a question about something and the very first thing that comes out of his mouth is either "uuuummm" or "huh", the remark directly following it will probably be a lie.
3. Some things are better left unsaid. (Ex: Every time he incorrectly remembers and event. Just let him think it happened the way he wants to remember it. Does it really matter who said what? O.K. well, it shouldn't.)
4. Pick your battles wisely. Even if what he is doing really does get on your nerves. You aren't perfect either (well, he doesn't have to know that you are). (Ex: STOP hanging the towels on the shower rod after you are done with your shower. When you do that, I have to remove them myself before I can get in the shower.) P.S. guys tune you out after like, 5 seconds of talking anyways.
5. No one feels better about anything after they are criticized for it. If you don't like what they are doing, find some other way to deal with it (like... revenge) or confront it in a constructive manner.

In every hole, there is a place to sign your name and in the really good ones, there are small surprises!! How fun!! This is the perfect exercise to do for fun! If you have a GPS already, it's free!! This weekend, the Dukey and I finally got everything in my APT put together (including the dreaded chairs)! We (well, mostly he) slaved away nailing and hanging (and also had time for a little fun)! Funny story... I wanted to get rid of an old cantaloupe from my fridge and Dukey said not to put it in the trash, so we decided to throw it off the porch! Good idea right?! Baaaaddd idea! Because I begged Dukey to let me throw it, I had a little accident. Apparently I'm not as strong as I thought because I accidentally hit a car right under us with the cantaloupe! SPLAT! omg omg omg! We ran inside and turned off the lights to make sure no one saw... And then went down and wiped it all off! It's our little secret, right?? Whew! Feels better to get that out! Anyways, so the porch (pictured) is finally finished! Hoorayy!! Now Galebo can rest assured that I don't have those ugly tailgating chairs on my porch!

P.S. I sat out on my porch and watched people stare at the melon with curiosity... hehe :)

Black Balloon

Today, Dukey and I went to the Balloon Festival in C-ton! It was sooooo much fun! We ate Italian Ice, watched dancers, and watched hot air balloons take off! It was so HOT, though! We had to sit in the car with the AC on for about 45 mins because of the heat! We unfortunately did not ride in the hot air balloon because it only took you about 20 ft. off the ground. We decided it wasn't worth the wait and headed to the Italian Ice tent!! MMMmmmm it was good! When I got side-tracked by the mini-dancers, I reminisced about my days in the dance studio. These little girls were so good!! I decided that I can not wait until either ML or SC gets into dance!

Adventures In Babysitting

So I am channeling Dukey's favorite movie, Adeventures In Babysitting. He loved this movie as a kid because he thought the lead character was hot...Anyways, today was my very 1st day of babysitting! It was soooo much fun! I have a 2 year old named Sara Cate! She is the most adorable thing I have ever seen (besides ML, of course)! We spent the whole day watching Clifford, swinging, naming everything by color, and singing our ABC's! I can't believe how smart she is! OOOH I am so excited because she had an interview in my hometown and is considering moving there very soon! I can't believe it! She is such an adult! I spent the day with her, Howie, and Galebo looking at places for her to live in December!
